General Information More Photos Inside & Out The Cafe Saba's Premier Guesthouse!Located in the quiet and secluded village known as Hell's Gate, The Gate House, is a relatively new and inviting addition to Saba. While keeping true to the local architecture, The Gate House, set high in the mountain, offers the most spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea, as well as the neighboring islands of St. Barts, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius. Cool trade winds are included in the package. Run by Lyliane and Michel Job, The Gate House includes six double rooms tastefully furnished in a bright Caribbean style. All have private baths and two units include kitchens. The Gate House Cottage can accommodate a couple with a child and is fully equipped to prepare your meals. The Gate House Villa has four bedrooms, three baths, kitchen, dining room and living room and its own swimming pool. The Villa can be rented by the room or as whole for four to ten people. The Gate House Cafe offers breakfast and dinner. Balconies surround The Gate House and are perfect for basking in
the sun, reading, relaxing or catching a breathtaking Saban sunrise. The Gate House promises a warm and friendly atmosphere. It's the perfect getaway retreat with the best the Caribbean has to offer. The Gate House Café serves authentic Saban Creole dishes and
French Cuisine. Every dish is entirely home made. We use only the
freshest, finest, and as much as possible local ingredients,
supplemented by direct imports from France. Beverly and Michel obtain
our vegetables and seafood from small local vendors to insure their
quality and freshness. We even obtain special hydroponically grown
lettuce from an American in Windwardside. Your meal will be
complemented by an extensive wine list with more than 130 entries
put together by Lyliane. Most of Champagnes and wines are available by
the glass thanks to the state of the art preservation system called
"Le Verre de Vin"®, the first such system in the Caribbean.
Open everyday for lunch (limited menu) and dinner. Meet our Sommelier and Chefs: Lyliane, Beverly Hassell and Michel.Lyliane was born in the Southwest of France not too far from the renown Bordeaux region and the Languedoc Roussillon. She became familiar with the varietals names and vineyards designation while helping in the family business. For the past twelve years she ran her own liquor and wine stores in the Boston area. She established a reputation of being a very knowledgeable wine connoisseur albeit very pragmatic in her recommendations to her customers. She is still working on expanding and improving the Gate House wine list. Please "Come and Talk Wine with Her"™ . Beverly Hassell is arguably Saba's finest chef. In 1985 she graduated with distinction from culinary school in St. Vincent. Immediately afterward, she competed with 300 candidates throughout the world for 6 positions at the prestigious Petite St. Vincent Resort. She was awarded the position of sauce chef. Beverly continued at Petite St. Vincent until 1992 when she met and married Anta Hassell from Saba. She has been The Gate House chef from the beginning, and continues to serve the best Creole food Saba has to offer. Michel is a self-taught cook who learned his skills from a wide range of experiences. At the tender age of twelve he started to learn the basic of cooking from family traditions. As an adult, having to do extensive traveling around the globe where he stayed in the finest hotels and restaurants he broadened his knowledge of flavors and textures. When home in France, then North Africa, the Middle-East and lastly in Boston Michel spent countless number of hours in his kitchen cooking for his family, relatives and friends. His main cooking guides are his mother's notebooks which she wrote in middle and high school many many decades ago. His style can be described as a mixture of classic French and Fusion cooking.
